A Sprig of Rosemary is a Celtic-Folk duo based in Toronto, Ontario. Comprised of harpist Kim Michele and flautist Jennifer Wakefield, this harp flute duo combines traditional Celtic music from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany, as well as Canadian folk roots music to create a beautiful blend of rich harmonies, silky female vocals and enchanting storytelling.

Their music draws from Medieval and Renaissance folk melodies, while incorporating their own unique style of new age songwriting. Recently they performed Irish Folk and O’Carolan’s Baroque at the Toronto Early Music Centre’s Early Music Fair at the historic Montgomery’s Inn and were the featured artists at TEMC’s Musically Speaking Concert Series, bringing an eclectic mix of melodies from the middle ages and renaissance to celtic folk roots music. A Sprig of Rosemary have presented original stories and songs at the Weaving Words Storytelling Festival in the Sharon Temple, and performed concerts at a variety of venues such as The Gladstone Hotel, Cameron House, and Children’s Peace Theatre and churches throughout the GTA. Kim is skilled in the Lyon and Healy Harp classical Harp, Ancient Celtic Harp and Historical Renaissance Harp, Mandola, Mandolin and Banjolina. Jennifer is a versatile vocalist, pianist and plays flute and whistle.

This album highlights the duos original arrangements of traditional folk ballads such as Riddles Wisely Expounded, Jean Ritchie’s Come Fare Away, Middle English lyric I Have A Yong Suster, a French Trouvere tune Pour Mon Cuer, as well as Irish tunes akin to Garten Mother’s Lullaby. A Sprig of Rosemary’s CD features Kim Michele’s enchanting harp performances and Jennifer Wakefield’s graceful flute playing and keyboard accompaniment. Combined, this pair is an ethereal blend of solo and duo vocal harmonies and instrumentation that is sure to transport you through the past into a realm of mystical magic and beauty.
